I considered the Mona Lisa to be important when it comes to identifying authorship, as the painting was valuable but it became even more valuable after its theft on August 21 1911 (see link). This made me begin to make me think about why it is so valuable? The painting has been a victim of remix culture which was inevitable as everyone wants to own their own version, or make a parody of it (see Beyonce and Britney).

Andy Warhol is a great example of the representation of consumerism with his ‘Car Crash’ series this documentary explains how the series denotes the way the news constantly shows news report repeatedly. I use the word consumerism because of his ‘Cambells’ Soup’ series, and how people have again remixed that onto t-shirts, posters, postcards etc making the art work non exclusive and available to everyone.
