FontForge:-

Using FontForge at first was quite difficult as I am used to editing fonts on Illustrator, however the limitations of FontForge allow you to constantly refine your font until you feel as though its' reached its maximum capability, the box seen underneath Fig 1 is the Metrics Window which allows me to see how letters would look next to each other as a functioning typeface.

As you can see in Fig 2, I have not refined my skills with the software as yet but i found loads of tools that could help me with designing a typeface if i wish to, there are a lot of free webfonts that I can download and refine to make them my own, so I might start expploring that as well as free hand drawing some fonts.
